Peachtree Corners Memorial Day Challenge

On Memorial Day we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation.

The inaugural Memorial Day Challenge is an obstacle course-themed physical competition for competitors ages 9 to 18. Its purpose is to provide a physical competition for our youth and to increase the knowledge and appreciation of Memorial Day and those we honor.

Who: Boys and girls ages 9 to 18

When: Monday May 27, 2024

Start Time: Rolling start every 90 seconds beginning at 9:00 AM

Where: Peachtree Corners Town Green (Path to Fitness), 5140 Town Center Blvd.

Registration Fee: $10, which includes t-shirt, dog tags, and refreshments

Award Ceremony: 10:30 AM

Memorial Day ceremony to follow at 11:00 AM at the Veterans Monument.

The award ceremony will take place at 10:30 AM immediately following the event on Monday May 27, 2024. The categories are:

Boys

  • 9-12
  • 13-15
  • 16-18

Girls

  • 9-12
  • 13-15
  • 16-18

The slant wall is an A-shaped wall with a 45-degree angle with a rope down the front of it. The competitor will grab the rope and use it to walk up the wall. Once at the top of the wall, the competitor will climb down the other side using a ladder.

A crawling obstacle where you need to stay low to the ground and crawl underneath wire for approximately 25 yards The competitor may use any method (crawling or rolling) but must stay low to the ground and under the wire the entire time.

Jump onto a 24-inch platform with both feet landing on the platform at the same time. Complete 15.

The inverted row is a bodyweight exercise. The competitor will lay on a flat surface and grab the bar positioned over their chest and pull themselves toward the bar. Complete 15 reps.

Lie down on the incline bench and grasp the top of it with both hands. Don't let your body slip down once you are in this position. Position your legs parallel to the floor, using your abs to hold them steady. Keep your hands and feet together. Move your legs toward your torso and roll your pelvis backwards. Raise your hips off the bench until your toes touch the bar. Complete 10 reps.

Climb a 16-foot rope and touch the support beam at the top and then descend the rope.

Navigate a 30-foot-long obstacle using rings and bars using only your hands. At no time should your feet touch the ground. You have to stay underneath the Rig and cannot use the structures or side supports.

From a standing position, drop and do a pushup, spring to your feet, and leap upwards with hands in the air. Complete 15.

Crawl along a 30-foot horizontal rope that is fixed approximately 9 feet above the ground between two wooden posts. Pull yourself along the rope, never touching the ground, until you touch the far post.

Run 1/3 mile on the course.

Two free instructional sessions taught by veterans will be offered at 8:00 AM on Saturday April 27 and Saturday May 11 at the Path to Fitness. You must have signed up and signed the waiver before attending an instructional session.
